Ernest J. Blanchette "Ernie", 92, died June 28, 2019 in Epping, NH from an accidental drowning while he had been fishing. He was born August 21, 1926 in Boston, MA., son of the late Ernest F. Blanchette and Georgette (Thebault) Blanchette.

Ernie was one of four children in his family. He grew up in Boxford, MA and enlisted into the United States Navy at age 17. He served in both WWII and the Korean Conflict having served honorably for three enlistments from 1943-1952. During WWII in 1945, Ernie was stationed on the amphibious assault ship LCIL-749 and was involved in the landing of troops directly onto beaches. On a return stay at home, he went on a blind double date by chance and met the love of his life, Rena Wile. They married on July 8, 1950 and lived most of their lives in Merrimac, MA. Ernie was a career automobile technician and worked for many years at Clarke Chrysler & Plymouth.

His favorite past-time was going fishing. In his earlier years, Ernie would take his boat on the Merrimac River or in the ocean and in his later years, Ernie enjoyed fishing in small ponds. He also liked taking his dog for a walk.

He was predeceased by his wife in 2002.

Ernie is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Audrey and Dana Cherry, son and daughter-in-law, Ernest and Linda Blanchette, daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Stanley Woodworth, 4 grandchildren, Kim, Justin, Jason and Melissa, 6 grandchildren, a brother, Robert Blanchette and several nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service with military honors will be held in the Locust Grove Cemetery, Merrimac, MA.
