James Joseph Surprenant, 80, of Epping, NH, passed away on September 11, 2019 after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born in Harmony, WI on March 11, 1939, son of the late Eugene J. and Bertha (Palmer) Surprenant.
James graduated from Phillips High School in Phillips, WI in 1957, and he served for 6 years in the US Army and for 15 and a half years in the Army Reserve as a medic. He earned an Associate's Degree in Business Management from Merrimack College and worked for 40 years at Teledyne Electro Mechanisms where he retired as a purchasing manager in 2004. James was the Vice President of the Ray-Fre Senior Center in Raymond, NH. He was a Communicant at St. Joseph Church in Epping and also belonged to of the Knights of Columbus as a fourth degree member. A member of the Richard A. Mitchell Post 51 in Epping, NH, he was also a member of the Raymond Sportsman's Club and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.
Throughout his life, James enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and playing cribbage.
James was predeceased by his wife Arlene M. (Dziadosz) Surprenant in 2014. He is survived by his son, James M. Surprenant and wife Ellen Cosgrove of Cheshire, CT; his daughter, Kristen Marie Surprenant of Epping, NH; his brother, Clifton D. Surprenant and wife Carol of Phillips, WI; his sister, Grace Upson of Phillips, WI; his granddaughter, Meredith Izzo; two great-granddaughters, Caroline and Maya Izzo of Smithfield, RI; and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, September 13, 2019 from 4-7 PM at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 9 Pleasant St., Epping, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on September 14, 2019, at 10:00 AM, at St. Joseph Church, 200 Pleasant St., Epping, NH. Burial with Military Honors will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Epping, NH.
