Patrick J. Scanlon passed away surrounded by his family on Sunday October 8, 2017. They were blessed to learn many valuable lessons from him during his 83 years. Patrick was affectionately known as "Bampie" by his family and friends and enjoyed singing, golfing, and spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. He was a true gentleman in every sense of the word. His generous heart and great sense of humor always kept his family and friends smiling. He will be known for his kind spirit and infectious laugh.
Patrick was born in Ballydorgan, County Cork, Ireland on March 27, 1934 to Richard and Nora Scanlon. On June 21, 1947, he arrived in Boston eventually settling in Somerville, Massachusetts. After graduating from Somerville High School class of 1953, he joined the United States Air Force. While stationed in Japan, he met the love of his life and married Haruko Tsuda. After serving 20 years in the Air Force, he resided in Exeter, New Hampshire to raise his family. He joined the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier working in Manchester, NH and Exeter, NH.
Patrick was predeceased by his wife of 28 years and by his siblings Thomas Splaine, Angela Nora Barclay, and Maureen Roehr. He leaves behind his loving children Carleen Scanlon-Winn and her husband William of Bedford, NH and their children Patrick and Meaghan; his son Kevin Patrick Scanlon and his wife Kathleen of Wakefield, MA and their daughters Margaret, Brigid, and Nora. He is also survived by his sisters Mary Connor and her husband Thomas, Johanna Prindiville, and Patricia McCarthy; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Calling hours for close friends and family are invited to the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter, NH on Saturday, October 14, 2017 from 9:30 to 11:00 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 AM, at St. Michael Church, 9 Lincoln St., Exeter, NH. Burial with military honors will be in the Exeter Cemetery.
