J. George Hoyt, 86, died on Saturday, January 19, 2013, at the Rockingham County Nursing Home in Brentwood, NH. He was born in Brentwood on June 26, 1926, son of the late George E. and Alice B. (Currier) Hoyt.
After school, George enlisted in the US Army during WWII and served as a guard at the Nuremberg Trials in Nuremberg, Germany. He worked for over 20 years for Wise Shoe Co., and was later employed at Burwell's Farm as a farmhand. He also worked at Adam Star Gas in Hampton Falls and for Kingston Warren in Newfields before retiring in 1991. After retirement he worked for Paul McInnis Auctioneers.
George enjoyed outdoor activities including hunting and fishing. He was gifted with a green thumb and loved gardening and tending to his blueberry patch. He was also a master at puttering and tinkering around the home and enjoyed spending many of his summers at Bow Lake in Strafford, NH.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Leila C. (Yeany) Hoyt of Hampton Falls, NH; 2 sons, Peter J. Hoyt of Lee, NH and David A. and his wife Jodi Hoyt of Newport, NH; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; and 1 niece.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, January 22, 2013, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter, NH. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 23, 2013, at 10:00 am, at the funeral home.
