Resided in Exeter, NH

EXETER -- Vercil Dana Wyman, 75 of Exeter, NH died on Thursday, March 16, 2017 peacefully at home following a year-long struggle with cancer.

He was born on April 16, 1941 in Keene, NH fourth of eight children to parents Oliver and Irene (Greene) Giguere. Following his mother's death in 1949, he was adopted by Don and Janette Wyman of Keene, NH. He worked at Bibeau's Hardware Store where he earned money to pay his own college tuition. He graduated Keene State College in 1963.

He married Ruth Ann Wiggett on June 15, 1963 and they relocated to the seacoast of NH, where he took his first job teaching at Newmarket Junior and Senior High School. In 1967 he accepted a position at Exeter Area Jr. High School and shortly after, they bought their beloved home in Exeter. He taught seventh grade industrial arts, drafting and woodshop until his retirement in 1995. He was an advocate for education and believed that every student deserves an opportunity to learn. Coming from humble means himself, he had compassion for economically-challenged students and non-traditional learners.

In addition to his teaching career, Dana was a real estate agent at Bo Chaines, Inc. Realty in Newmarket, and worked as a part-time sexton at the First Congregational Church of Exeter. He was a member of New Hampshire Education Association (NHEA) and the Exeter Education Association (EEA). He continued his education through graduate courses at the University of New Hampshire and Keene State College.

He was adored by his mother-in-law, Mabel I. Wiggett who lived with Dana and Ruth from 1968 until her death in 2005. For a period in the early 1980's there were four generations living under one roof -- Mabel's mother, Bertha Davis moved in with the family when she was unable to live on her own due to symptoms of Alzheimer's disease. The family home was perpetually active with visitors of all ages, including weekly band rehearsals during his boys' teenage years, festive holiday celebrations and frequent family reunions. He enjoyed home d├ęcor, landscaping, and helping friends, family and neighbors with his handyman skills.

He was known for his kindness, creativity, humor and bountiful energy. He was a dedicated family man and was extremely proud of his sons and grandchildren. He fully enjoyed his retirement years spending time with his four grandchildren who called him their Papa.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, two sons Jeffrey Dana Wyman of Exeter, NH and Drew Wesley Wyman of Portland, ME; daughters-in-law Heidi Howard Wyman and Joanna Clymer Wyman; grandchildren Mara, Wesley, Nathaniel, and Benjamin; three sisters: Noni Mitrook of Rye, NH; Nita Holm of Concord, NH; Wendy Horton of Bunnell, FL.

He was predeceased by his parents and four siblings: Naomi Giguere, Juana "Mitch" Mitchell, Vic Giguere and Val Giguere.

No public calling hours or services are planned as per his request. Brewitt Funeral Service, 14 Pine St., Exeter, NH is assisting the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Medallion Fund for New Hampshire Tomorrow at the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation or a charity of your choice.
