Barbara J. Gorton, 86, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on March 28, 2017. She loved the Lord Jesus and His Holy blessed word.

She was the widow of George Gorton who passed away on June 12, 2006. She was born in Danville, NH on April 7, 1930 to the late Herbert L. Collins and Hilja (Koshinon) Collins.

She attended Eaton Grammar School in Danville, graduating from the 8th grade in 1944. She went to Sanborn Seminary in Kingston, NH for her high school years, graduating with the class of 1948.

She and her husband, George owned and operated "Gortons Store" in Danville for 42 years, having purchased it from her uncle Roy Collins.

She loved gardening and spending time at their cottage on Ossipee Lake. She also enjoyed cross country skiing and taking long walks through the woods.

Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were very dear to her and of the utmost importance in her life. She loved them all dearly and loved to cook for them and have family gatherings whenever possible.

She belonged to the Danville Baptist Church for many years serving on the Missionaries board, the prudential committee and the board of Christian Education. She taught Sunday School for 45 years and served as Sunday School Superintendant, also teaching the Ladies Bible Studies.

She is presently a member of Grace Ministries International in Brentwood, where she had served on many committees and taught Sunday School. She was also involved in the Women of Grace Ministries.

She is survived by her 6 wonderful children; Peter Gorton and his wife, Maria of Northborough, MA., Jackie Sprague of Twisp, WA, Jeffrey Gorton and his wife, Linda of Hampstead, Lisa Ewens of Bradenton, FL, Lori Bassett and her husband, Fred of Northwood and Linda Gorton of Danville.

She has 12 grandchildren; James Gorton and wife Denise of Danville, Kim Dennis and husband Rob of CT, Michelle Gorton of Danville, Sarah Lohse and husband, Brandon of Lynnwood, WA, Jeremy Sprague of Everett, WA, Nikolas Bassett and wife, Taryn, Nathan Bassett and Sam Bassett of Northwood. Also Lexi Heidenreich, Sarah Gorton and Jenna Gorton.

She has 10 great grandchildren, Kaden Lohse, Mckenna Lohse, Karsten Lohse, Madeline Lohse, Sawyer Bassett, Ricky Dunlap, Miles Bassett, Mary Gorton, Hunter Gorton and Jocelyn Dennis.

She also leaves her very dear sister, Dorothy Rowe of Brentwood. She was predeceased by 5 sisters, Freida Collins, Ruth Mitchell, Julia Giglioti, Lucille Fernald and Violet Culligan, and her two brothers, Roy H. Collins and Paul Collins.

We rejoice in the fact that she'll be joined again with her husband, George, they're to be together in their Heavenly Home for eternity.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, April 2, 2017 from 2:00-5:00 PM at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter, NH.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, April 3, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Danville Baptist Church, Danville, NH. Rev Everett Palmer will officiate.

Spring burial will be in the Center Cemetery, Danville.
