She was the daughter of Joseph E. Couillard and Lucy (Gagne) Couillard. Mary was predeceased by her parents and her brother Charles Couillard, and sisters Yvonne Matick and Millie Rousseau. She attended Exeter Schools, and for many years was employed in the shoe industry.

Mary and her husband worked for and later owned Chet's Inc., a men's clothing store in downtown Exeter. Together they were both active in the Exeter Area Chamber of Commerce, and were very active in the beginning of the reactivation of the downtown shopping area. Mary was a member of St. Michael's Church in Exeter. For many years Mary and Dick assisted with Mass and the distribution of the Holy Eucharist at nursing homes. In years past, Mary was a parish collector for New Hampshire Catholic Charities.

Mary is survived by her husband, Richard and two people in whom she had a great deal of pride and deep love for, her daughter Joyce A. Griffin of Dover and granddaughter, Amy C. Griffin Cannata of Allston, MA. Mary is also survived by Amy's husband Marc-Anthony, her sister-in-law Judith Churchill, Jackie Manix and Elaine Manix, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
