Obituary

On February 22, 1921 a very special person was born in Chester, NH to
Ella and John Porter. She was Goldie E. Brooks. She passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2018 at the age of 96. She left us peacefully in her sleep while residing at the Genesis Healthcare Center in Exeter, NH.
Goldie was predeceased by her husband, Emile Brooks of 55 years. She is survived by her son, Jesse P. Brooks and his wife, Deborah Brooks, her daughter, Alice Allen and five grandchildren: Emily Adams, Tara Pitura, Lindsay Brooks Foley, Jenna Rice and predeceased by Goldie Allen. Her four great grandsons, Anthony Allen, Adam Adams, Tyler Foley, and Conner Rice and great granddaughter, Leah Foley. She was fortunate to have eleven siblings ,however is only survived by Patricia Bernier of Epping, NH and Joel Porter of Hooksett, NH and many nieces and nephews.
Goldie moved to Epping, NH prior to starting her education at the West Epping school where her teacher, Mrs. Blair made a big and lifetime impact on her life. She related various stories about how kind Mrs. Blair was as her teacher and her mentor. She not only taught her to read and write but she took students on field trips which Goldie spoke of often.
Goldie was employed at the Raymond Shoe Shop and was soon chosen to work on the most difficult projects as her workmanship was respected by all. She managed her own restaurant in West Epping known as Goldie's Lunch. People came from the surrounding towns to enjoy the plentiful servings of her excellent food.
She was always working. One might find her sewing doll clothes, doing shoe work from her home, quilting, knitting, crocheting, macrameing, and making beaded jewelry. Her work ethic was unbelievable. She loved to cook and always invited family and friends to enjoy a snack or meal at her home. Due to the fact that her mother lived with her until she passed, Goldie's home was the hub for all family and friends and she truly enjoyed every minute of their company. She always looked at life in a most positive way and saw the best in everyone. If only everyone was as kind, loving and thoughtful as Goldie Brooks!
