Josephine A. Steere, 83, died peacefully surrounded by her family on February 26, 2018 at her home in Exeter, NH. A native and lifelong resident of Exeter, she was born one of 9 children on April 23, 1934, the daughter of the late Arthur J. and Josephine (Swiezynski) White.
She served the United States Navy from September 17, 1952 to September 14, 1956 and later worked in several area restaurants including Lou’s Diner in Exeter and the Carriage Stall in Stratham, NH. She also worked as a bar manager at the Exeter Country Club for 14 years.
Josephine greatly enjoyed the thrill of gaming and made many trips to the local casinos and purchased many scratch tickets in pursuit of a big win. She was also an avid New England Patriots fan.
Josephine was predeceased by her husband Donald J. Steere Sr. who died in 2005; and is survived by 3 sons, Donald J. Steere Jr. and his wife Amanda of Exeter, NH, Daniel C. Steere and his wife Dawna of Manchester, NH, and Douglas A. Steere and his wife Robin of Boston, KY; 3 daughters, Diane L. James and her husband Jerry of Hampton, NH, Debra A. Marston and her husband Greg of Stratham, NH, and Denise I. Frotton and her husband Michael of Stratham, NH; 10 grandchildren, Joseph, Taylor, Danielle, Joanne, Dalton, Jerry III (who resided with Josephine and helped care for her the last 7 years) Chris, Justin, Savannah, and Kelsey; 3 great grandchildren, Jamie, Jaidyn and Liam; her brother Robert J. White and his longtime companion Grace Couch of Dover, NH; and several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 10 AM at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter, NH. Burial will be held in the Exeter Cemetery in the spring.
