Edward "Ed" H. Day, 81, died March 25, 2018 at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston, MA. He was born February 12, 1937 in Lee, NH, son of the late Charles and Vola (Hartford) Day.
Ed grew up in the Suncook, NH area and served in the United States Army as a paratrooper. He had resided proudly in the home he built in Newton, NH for the past 45 years. Ed was a longtime self-employed carpenter with Day Building Co., where he built many homes in the Gloucester, Rockport, Boxford and Ipswich area. Ed was a very enjoyable person, well respected, easy to talk to and quite funny. He will be sadly missed.
His hobbies included fishing and boating. In his younger years they frequented Lake Winnipesaukee and Ossipee Lake and later on for most father's days they went out to Great Common Island in Newcastle. He was also well known for spending countless hours puttering around his home.
Ed was a longtime member of the Saggahew Masonic Lodge of Haverhill, MA.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of 54 years, Laura L. Day, and his siblings, Carl Johnson, Clyde Heath and Charlotte DeGroat.
Ed is survived by his daughter, Joanne Day of Newton, daughter and son-in-law, Maria and Gregory Mason of Plaistow, 11 grandchildren, Heidi Guide, Timothy Vincent, Amanda Roberts, Jennifer Vincent, Eric Vincent, Matthew Day, Rachel Day, Daniel Day, Joshua Sadler-Day, Katie Day and Caitlin Mason; 10 great-grandchildren, Ryan, Alecsandra, Ashlie, Nikolas, Zakary, Madison, Colin, Jaxson, Evelyn and Donnie, two brothers, Charles Day and Carlton Day, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 30, 2018 from 5:00-8:00 PM at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 9 Pleasant St., Epping, NH.
Graveside services with military honors will be held in the spring at Holy Angels Cemetery, Plaistow, NH.
