Ronald Walter Metcalf of East Kingston, NH passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family after a truly heroic battle with pancreatic cancer on April 4, 2018. Ron came into our world on November 17th, 1945 in Dedham, Massachusetts to his father Walter Metcalf and mother Gladys Metcalf. He grew up in the city of Dedham with his large family from whom he discovered some of the things he most enjoyed in life; traveling, learning and experiencing history and culture, traveling as far as Europe and the Arctic Circle in Alaska. He enjoyed cooking, golfing, and gardening, but what Ron valued most in life was loyalty, service, hard work and family.
Ron graduated from Dedham High School in 1963 and received a BS from Southern New Hampshire University in 1970. With this education he exhibited his values by committing to a lifelong accounting career which included work with local companies such as Epicure of Newburyport Massachusetts and the Eaton Corporation of Beverly Massachusetts.
Ron met and married the love of his life, Barbara Krafton, in 1969. Together they celebrated almost 50 years together, raising three children and providing a home that was an open door to family and friends, where all the best memories of this family came together. He spent time as a leader in The Boy Scotts of America, a volunteer in the East Kingston Fire Department, eventually becoming the president of the fire association. He also served as a member of the East Kingston Cemetery committee until his retirement just this past year. All of these facts give us a vague shape of the man Ron was, but it does show us the foundation of what it takes to be the man he really was; an active citizen in his community and country, a true friend, a loving husband and the best dad and grandfather you could ever hope for.
Ron was predeceased by his brothers Leo F. Metcalf and William Nesti. He is survived by his spouse Barbara Metcalf; his children, Eric Metcalf and his wife Kathy of East Kingston, NH, Sheila Metcalf of Montgomery, VT, Leo Metcalf of Dover, NH; grandchildren, Nicolas and Isabel Metcalf; his sister Audrey Metcalf and her spouse Marie Marchitelli of Wells, ME, and sister Eileen McCulley of Port Peirce Florida.
