Paul Dollard Fortier passed away peacefully in his sleep with his loving daughter, Irene, by his side at the Veterans Home in Tilton, NH on June 27, 2018. Paul was born in Newmarket, NH on October 30, 1925. He was 92 years old.
Paul spent much of his life living in Newmarket then in Hampton, NH and then Exeter NH before he entered the Veterans Home. He was the son of Appolinaire and Alexina (Langlois) Fortier of Newmarket NH.
During World War ll Paul served in the Merchant Marines/Coast Guard. Paul was assigned to the USS Casimir Pulaski and also the WWll Liberty ship SS Lillian Nordica based in Portland, Maine on which he served as Fireman. The SS Lillian Nordica was a munitions supply ship and Paul was deployed to England, Scotland and Italy.
Paul was predeceased by his beloved wife Germaine (Hamel) Fortier whom he married on June 28, 1947.
Paul was an avid woodworker his whole life and he loved to hunt and fish. His most prized possession was his 6 1/2 lb. big mouth bass which he had mounted and proudly displayed.
Paul is survived by his daughters, Pauline Bateman and her husband Vincent Bateman, Sr. of Newfields NH and Irene Roberts of Litchfield, NH; his son Michael Fortier of Newmarket, NH; granddaughter, Vickie Hinton of NC; grandsons, Kevin Cronshaw of Manchester, NH, Chris Roberts of New Jersey, Nick Roberts of Mass, Jason Fortier of Newmarket, NH and Ron Fortier of Newmarket NH and two great grandsons and two great granddaughters.
Calling hours will be held on July 3, 2018, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter, NH. A funeral service will be at 1:00 PM at the funeral home with burial immediately following at Calvary Cemetery, Rte. 108, Newmarket, NH.
