Doris F. Light "Dotty", 88, died November 2, 2018 at the Exeter Hospital.
She was born July 14, 1930 in Kingston, NH, daughter of the late Harry Carter and Ida (Bicknell) Challis.
Dotty grew up in Kingston, NH and she graduated from Sanborn Seminary. She was one of five children in her family. She married the love of her life, Robert J. Light on September 5, 1953. In 1956, they built their home in Exeter, NH in which they resided for the rest of their lives. They also spent many summers at their camp on Merrymeeting Lake in New Durham, NH. Robert owned and operated for 40 years Hoyt's Office Stores in Portsmouth and Hampton as well as Rochester Office Supplies in Rochester with Dotty by his side doing all the payroll and bookkeeping. They loved square dancing and were devoted Communicants of St. Michael Church of Exeter. Dotty was a supporter of many charities and sponsored the Orioles Pony League Baseball team for 10+ years outfitting those players with uniforms and equipment. Dotty was often seen sitting in her front yard waving to neighbors as they went by. She was also an avid bird watcher and gardener.
She was predeceased by her loving husband on December 13, 2007, her son, Brian Light, a brother, Earl Carter, and a sister, Winnifred Wentworth.
Dotty is survived by her son and his longtime companion, Thomas R. Light and Joan Gallagher, daughter and her longtime companion, Carol Light and Steven Churchill, a brother, Walter Carter, sister, Bertha "Buffy" Bruce and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, November 12, 2018 from 3:00-5:00 PM at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter, NH.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at 11:00 AM at St. Michael Church, Exeter.
Burial will follow in the Exeter Cemetery.
